We are a group of Board Certified General and Vascular surgeons who strive to provide evidence based advanced surgical care to our patients that is state of the art and cutting edge. Our surgeons are compassionate, caring individuals whose goal is to create a relationship with our patients based on communication, trust and mutual respect. Our belief is that a well educated, committed patient is a satisfied patient.
The surgeons at Agave Surgical Associates practice the entire spectrum of General Surgery and General Vascular Surgery while at the same time fulfilling an obligation to teach the science and art of medicine to tomorrow’s healers. As such, our surgeons regularly teach both residents in surgery and medical students interested in surgery from The University of Arizona, and are committed to a lifetime of learning.

Dr. Jolyon D. Schilling
Dr. Schilling graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from the University Of Washington School Of Medicine in 1986, receiving the James Haviland, M.D. Award for clinical excellence. He completed his general surgical residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1991 and his vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Arizona in 1993.
Dr. Schilling is board certified in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and General Vascular Surgery. He is a senior flight surgeon with the rank of Lt. Col in the Arizona Air National Guard, 162nd Fighter Wing and chief of hospital services.
He is a clinical associate professor of Surgery at the University of Arizona the Director of Surgical education at Tucson Medical Center. Dr. Schilling is the wound care Director At Cornerstone Hospital of Southeast Arizona and the Co Chairman of TMC General Surgery/Urology Service Line Agreement. Dr. Schilling is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor. Dr. Schilling has a lifetime membership with the Association for Academic Surgery.

Dr. Gustafson graduated from The University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2007. She subsequently completed her general surgical residency at The University of Arizona in 2013. During residency, she completed a research fellowship, was awarded the Charles Putnam Chief Resident of the Year Award and Trauma Resident of the Year Award and served as an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor. She went on to complete a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut where she has become proficient in laparoscopic treatment of diseases of the esophagus, diaphragm, spleen, adrenal gland, gallbladder and abdominal wall.
Although she has a special interest in surgical treatment of benign diseases of the esophagus, repair of diaphragmatic hernias and abdominal wall hernias, she is board certified in general surgery and welcomes all patients with general surgical needs.
